    • Baroness Uddin

     
    Born in Bangladesh and brought up in England , Baroness Uddin has dedicated her life to public services, social reforms and equal rights.


    A formidable champion for women and local government, Pola Manzila Uddin was invited to the House of Lords in 1998, for her contribution to the advancement of women and disability rights, bestowing the title of Baroness Uddin of Bethnal Green. She began her professional career in the East End, developing and leading numerous community working groups in the 1970s. She led and organised distinct women centred projects which continue to serve the community, including the Jagonari centre, the UK's first purpose built Asian Women's education and training centre.

     

    Baroness Uddin serves on the Select Committee on European Affairs and chaired several government Task Forces. She is a board member of Autism Speak UK and is a patron of Orbis International, Student Partnership Worldwide, Bethnal Green and Victoria Park Housing Association, Women's Housing Forum, Women's Aid, Brit-Bangla and The Dame Vera Lynn Trust. She was awarded an honorary doctorate from Exeter University.

    Sarah Joseph is editor of Emel magazine and commentator on British Muslims. She is a writer and a broadcaster and has spent the past ten years lecturing on Islam both within the UK and internationally.

     

    Sarah converted to Islam as a teenager after being brought up as a Catholic. She was awarded an OBE, in 2004, for services to “interfaith dialogue”.

    Na'ima B. Robert is the author of the highly acclaimed 'From my sisters lips' and Editor-in-chief of SISTERS, the UK's first magazine for Muslim women.

     

    Having accepted Islam almost 10 years ago, Na'ima is committed to inspiring Muslim women to be the best they can be in all areas of their lives and to sharing this way of life with non-Muslims everywhere.

      Zareen Roohi Ahmed

    Zareen Roohi Ahmed is the Former Chief Executive of the British Muslim Forum (BMF). Zareen is also an active member of the Mosques and Imams National Advisory Body, an independent group set up to address the development needs of Mosques and Imams in Britain.

     

    Zareen is the founder of a community arts organization called Silverleaf which aims to motivate and build the confidence of illiterate women with limited English Language skills.
